Regular exercise could fix your insomnia

Updated:
PHOENIX -

If you spent last night tossing and turning, maybe you aren't active enough.

There's evidence exercise can help battle insomnia, but it's not a quick fix.

A new study at Northwestern University says aerobic exercise during the day probably won't help you sleep better that first night.

Researchers say regular exercise over a few weeks will eventually help most people sleep better.

If you're having trouble sleeping, you're tired, so how do you get motivated to exercise?

Mayo Clinic suggests to schedule it like an appointment or a job. Put it on the calendar and make sure everyone in your family knows.

You can start a team. Find friends who are in the same situation and hold each other accountable.

Find something you enjoy, whether it's a class, a DVD, a walking path or even hula hooping.

Get it over with at the start of your day. Many people will tell you that if you get in a workout in the morning, you're more motivated than waiting until the end of the day.
