The Rim Fire is now growing and spreading to cover an area of 280 square miles. It's become the state's 7th largest fire on record as it continues to threaten more of the Yosemite National Park. It's threatening power and gas lines and now the water supply for millions in the nearby San Francisco Bay area. Thousands of homes are still threatened as Tuolumne City remains under an evacuation advisory for a sixth straight day. As of the last count, the wildfire is about 20 percent contained.
Despite the massive wildfire, the Yosemite National Park with all of its attractions is still open and preparing for a busy Labor Day Holiday weekend. The Yosemite Falls, The Lodge and the Awahnee Hotel are all still open. And, the views of Half Dome and El Capitan are reported to be clear. Unfortunately, the smoke is blowing right into Reno, Nevada, where the air quality is now listed as unhealthy for everyone.
