3-month-old dies after being left in hot car

Posted: Updated:

Wednesday afternoon, Phoenix firefighters and police were called out to BT's Sports Pub, near Thunderbird and Scottsdale Roads, for an unresponsive baby that had been left in a car.

The baby's 32-year-old father, a kitchen manager at the bar, had stopped by and forgotten  3-month-old Jamison Gray was in the vehicle.

After some time had passed, the baby's father realized his mistake. Someone tried to administer CPR, but the infant was unresponsive.

Paramedics arrived to take over, and he was rushed to a nearby hospital in extremely critical condition, according to Phoenix Police. The baby was later pronounced dead.

Police believe Jamison was left unattended for more than an hour and went into distress.

Detectives interviewed the 32-year-old father of the child, who they described as being extremely distraught.

"His intentions were to stop in and check very very shortly. Somehow he got distracted, his 3-month-old son was left in the car. When he came out he found that the child was in distress," said Phoenix Police Sgt. Tommy Thompson.

Coworkers called the man a devoted father.

The temperature at Scottsdale Airpark, which is nearby, was 102 degrees midday Wednesday.

It's too early to say if any criminal charges will be filed. The father's name hasn't been released.
