Superstorm Sandy

Business down on Jersey Shore

Posted: Updated:
NEW JERSEY (MYFOXNY.COM) -

Gov. Chris Christie visited storm-recovered businesses in Seaside Heights, N.J., on Friday to see how they did over the summer. He said many reported being down about 40 percent, but they were "happy for the 60 percent they did get."

Sanctuary Beachwear told Fox 5 that revenues were much lower than last year. Employees told us Superstorm Sandy-related bills made it harder to turn a profit.

And judging from the light turnout on Friday, it doesn't appear Labor Day weekend will save the season for shore businesses.

In November of last year, ATT attorney Judy Fairweather promised: "I will come back with an army (of experts)" in her bid to convince the Zoning Board of Adjustment to grant multiple variances that would allow her company to install 12 cell antennas on the NJ American Water Tower on Buxton Road. At the end of the meeting on Thursday, Fairweather all but sounded retreat after bowing to the request by residents, who asked that the next meeting be moved to Sept. 18.
