Family says Westland girl sexually assaulted by teenage neighbor

WESTLAND, Mich. (WJBK) -

A horrible ordeal for a family trying to enjoy some pool time over the Labor Day weekend. They say their underage daughter was sexually assaulted by a teenage neighbor.

Click on the video player to watch Robin Murdoch's report.

"I want justice," said the girl's mother who asked not to be identified. "I want my daughter to have justice for what he did to her."

The mother tells Fox 2 her 9-year-old daughter came running home, screaming after the incident near the pool at the Hines Park apartments in Westland. The girl is rarely alone, but her mother let her go a short distance to meet a friend.

That's when she says a 16-year-old resident pulled her into a bathroom and sexually assaulted her. She tried to fight him off. She bit him, but the suspect bit her back. Bite marks are visible on the girl's body.

Several other families who live in the complex say their children have also had run-ins with the teenage boy. They're now circulating a petition to get his family kicked out. We stopped by the teen's house to try and speak to his family but no one was home.

We also reached out to Westland Police but so far, we have not heard back. Stay with FOX 2 for updates.
