Expedited PreCheck security screening coming to Midway Airport

CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

The days of waiting in long lines at airports, including at Midway International airport, could soon be over.

The Transportation Security Administrations says its PreCheck program has been so successful with people who participate in frequent flier programs, that it is expanding.

Soon more airports, including Midway will have a PreCheck security lane for passengers who qualify.

The new program allows airline passengers to leave on their shoes, belts and some outer clothing and leave their laptops and liquids up to 3 ounces in their bags.

Once the TSA PreCheck becomes available to the general public, there are security precautions you will have to go through. You must submit personal information like your passport and social security number, undergo a criminal background check, submit your fingerprints and pay $85 dollars--a payment, officials say, that will be good for 5 years.

Aviation analyst Joe Schwieterman from DePaul University says there is a bit of concern now that the program is expanding.

"That raises a lot of interesting loop hole opportunities," Schwieterman says. "I think they have to take these steps, there simply aren't enough resources to do everything to all people. But, the speed of this, the simplicity for people will create some loop holes. Safety watch dogs clearly may have some concerns."

A TSA spokesperson addressed those concerns, saying that just because someone purchases a PreCheck option, doesn't always mean they will get it. There will be random security checks that could force you to follow the procedures that everyone else goes through.
