Girl Sent Home Because Of Hair, Says Father

Posted: Updated:
TULSA, Okla. -

A seven year old is brought to tears and then sent home from school because of her hair. School officials in Oklahoma insist her style isn't appropriate.

Tiana Parker has dreadlocks. Her father says that officials at Deborah Brown Community School in Tulsa told her she couldn't wear the hairstyle in school. They claim the dress code clearly states that "hairstyles such as dreadlocks, afros, mohawks and other faddish styles are unacceptable."

"It hurt my feelings to the core," Terrance Parker, her father says.

"I think that they should let me have my dreads," says Tiana.

Tiana, a straight-A student, now goes to a different school and she's keeping her dreadlocks.
