DeKalb Co. police officer accused of trafficking in meth

Posted: Updated:

A DeKalb County police officer is charged with trafficking in meth.

Federal agents arrested 43-year-old William Miguel on Friday. The 11-year veteran of the DeKalb County Police Department is charged with conspiracy to traffic in methamphetamines.

Miguel was most recently a member of the Gang Unit. He assisted in investigations of suspected gang activity, which could have included drugs.

DeKalb County Police Chief Cedric Alexander said that there is evidence Miguel allegedly used his position in law enforcement to help this organization traffic in meth. Alexander would not give specifics.

Alexander said the DEA notified them some months ago of their investigation and they assisted.

Miguel has been placed on paid leave.

More arrests are possible, according to Alexander.
