PHILADELPHIA -

Dozens of residents of the "Harvest Village" in North Philadelphia have to be out of their homes by tomorrow. They're being evicted after the city deemed the building to be unsafe.

Cecil McKnight is one of more than one hundred tenants forced out of the harvest village apartments on North 22nd street in Tioga.

"We're put in a hard predicament," says McKnight. "We aren't getting any help. No one is responding to our questions."

Late last month, the Department of Licenses and Inspections sent a letter to everyone in the apartment complex, telling them that they had until this Monday, September 9th to move out. Licenses and Inspections says that it ceased the property because of fire code violations. A spokesperson says that it's also an illegal conversion and does not have a valid rental license.

"I don't have anywhere to go tomorrow," says Tianna Singoeton, a renter.

Tianna Singoeton has been paying rent based on a lease. She says that her rent check receipts are signed by the property supervisor, known as Jose. FOX 29 tried pressing him about what's going on.

"I don't rent anything. I just sit at the front desk," Jose responded.

According to property records, the building is owned by the Gethsemane Outreach Ministry. FOX 29 went to their office, but the building is abandoned.

"I feel screwed. I was paying to live in a luxury building," says Michael Blas, a tenant.

Michael Blas moved in about eight months ago while the building was under construction. There were promises of fancy amenities. Now, he wonders if the work will ever get finished.

"They ended up blaming the tenants that some of us weren't paying our rent and they didn't have enough," says Blas.

L and I said that it will have city workers at Harvest Village Monday morning to help tenants find shelter.
