LAKE MARY, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35 ORLANDO) -

As police investigate a domestic dispute between George Zimmerman and his estranged wife Shellie, an iPad may be crucial evidence in determining whether any charges are filed.

Lake Mary Police Department spokesman Zach Hudson said Tuesday that the iPad captured video of the dispute, but the mobile device was in pieces and needed to be examined in a lab.

Shellie Zimmerman called 911 on Monday, saying her estranged husband was threatening her and her father with a gun.  She later changed her story and decided against pressing charges. No gun was ever found.

"Initially, we thought a gun was involved, and a gun was not involved and it was never seen by anyone on scene," said Hudson.

The attorney who represented George Zimmerman during his criminal trial told FOX 35 on Monday that there was never any threatening with a fire arm.

"Nobody would suggest that," said Mark O'Mara.   "I know the 911 tapes said that, Shellie was saying something, but again, I think that was the heightened emotion."

Shellie Zimmerman filed for divorce last week. She and her husband separated a month after he was acquitted of fatally shooting Trayvon Martin.

When asked if George Zimmerman may have already moved on from his marriage and was involved with another person, O'Mara responded,  "I'm not certain. I think he has close friends, and I think you get close with certain friends the more they help you, but I don't know if it's a relationship."  He added,  "They need to work through their situation separation, divorce if that seems to be what will happen, as privately as they can."

While no charges were filed on Monday, Hudson indicated that there still could be a domestic violence case.

"We don't know if he's the victim or the aggressor, or even if there is an aggressor or victim," he said.  "That's why you do that investigation."

Residents in quiet Lake Mary neighborhood 'not happy' about public dispute

Most people living in the quiet Lake Mary neighborhood where the dispute took place said they had no clue who lived in the house at the end of the Sprucewood Rd.

"I'm not very happy," said Martin Cooper.   He has lived on the street for seven years.

"I have a young family," said Cooper. "I've got kids. Now, there's going to be a lot more people out here.  I don't know if there's going to be people looking for Zimmerman and trying to cause trouble. My wife is kind of scared to go out."

He and many others told FOX 35 they had no clue that the Zimmermans lived just doors away from them.

"I had a vague idea that his wife's relative owned the house," said Cooper. "But I had no idea that she had let them stay there."

Others, such as Steve Stanek, said they knew the family, and made a conscious decision not to reveal their whereabouts.

"They stayed in their house a lot of time," said Stanek.

Stanek said Monday's incident placed all of his neighbor's homes in the spotlight.

"I guess [I felt] a little exposed," said Stanek.
