DETROIT, Mich. (WJBK) -

Abraham Pearson, the man police say escaped from a holding cell at the Frank Murphy Hall of Justice, is back behind bars now after police caught him walking near I-94 and Mt. Elliot Monday night.

His escape prompted a near-15 hour search that utilized several branches of law enforcement, as well as alert citizens. A 911 call tipped police of Pearson's location. Sources say Pearson was tired and trying to catch a ride out of town Monday night around 10PM, but instead, he caught a ride back to jail.

Police caught up with Pearson and were lead on a short foot chase before taking him back into custody. Police say he wasn't holding anything and gave no indication he was armed, and that he gave up without a fight.

Meanwhile, neighbors in Pearson's old neighborhood remember him well and say they weren't surprised to see him on the news.

"I knew exactly who it was - the old jackass across the street! I know trouble when I see trouble," one neighbor told Fox 2's Maurielle Lue anonymously.

Lue also visited the sheriff's deputy Pearson is believed to have stabbed with a makeshift weapon.

63-year-old Harrison Tolliver was released from the hospital Monday, and is at home recovering with family. They say he is in "good spirits", which can be seen as he poked his head out the window and smiled for Lue, letting her take a photograph (see right).

Pearson is expected to be arraigned on ten new charges on Wednesday.  

Pearson was due in court on Monday to learn his sentence for an armed robbery carjacking charge. He was facing 10 - 15 years, but now he's likely to face life behind bars.

25-year-old Pearson is believed to have escaped from that holding cell after stabbing Tolliver three times in the neck with a make-shift weapon, taking Tolliver's uniform, cell phone and radio, escaping out a back door and then proceeding to carjack a motorist.
