So there you were, watching the games this past weekend and the stud you picked in the first round, whether it was Marshawn Lynch, CJ Spiller, or Stevan Ridley, was stinking up the joint. You happened to be playing against Peyton Manning, or Victor Cruz, or Adrian Peterson and down you went. 0-1. Oh, the horror!!!
Sure, there are some concerns with players like Ridley and David Wilson, but there is no reason to panic and start trading or making ridiculous free agent claims after just one week. Those players were drafted high for a reason and one week is way too soon to make a decision on them. Sure, some may end up being busts, but you need to wait at least a few weeks to see what happens.
On the flip side, you can try and take advantage of one of your panicked fellow owners who may be desperate to trade you one of those so-called underachieving guys.
So there is no reason to panic after one week. Stay with the guys you drafted and see how things pan out. In the case of Ridley, you may have worried that a great game by Shane Vereen was going to bury him. But Vereen will be out with an injured wrist for around 4 weeks which should give Ridley every chance to win back the confidence of Bill Belichick and his fantasy football owners.
One more tip. If your league does not have transaction penalties or limits, feel free to go after some of the players who had great Week 1's. But a word of caution… NFL defenses are aware of those guys too so it's highly unlikely Julius Thomas or Eddie Royal will continue to score twice a game. Feel free to roll the dice, but I wouldn't replace a stud TE for a guy like Thomas quite yet.
Best of luck to everyone in Week 2!
