FOX 11's food and fun expert Mar Yvette searches the Los Angeles area for some of the best places to eat, drink, shop and have a great time. Featured guests then swarm our FOX Television Center parking lot every Thursday morning between 9am and 10am on Good Day LA, creating a big party as one jam-packed segment known as the Weekend Roundup!
Here's more information about the guests we featured:
LA County Fair
It's the end of summer, but there's still plenty of fun going on at the LA County Fair now through September 29. Meet some of the most adorable baby animals ever at Fairview Farms where Sky Shivers and friends answer all your questions about the barnyard bunnies, chicks, piglets, goats and little lambs. And when you want to take on the wild side, head over to Mojo's African Safari. That's where you'll find Karla Majewski along with her favorite Capuchin monkey Mojo overseeing more than 50 exotic creatures including camels, zebras, Lily the spider monkey and Gizmo the owl.
The Kosher Palate
California's first 100% kosher food truck (yes, there is a mashgiach on board always!) and farmer's market booth is here just in time for the Jewish holidays. Whether it's schmear for Yom Kippur, stuffed cabbage for Sukkot or just tasty veggie blintzes and homemade honey cakes, the Kosher Palate makes every dish with locally sourced, sustainably grown and ethically produced natural ingredients under the strict supervision of the Rabbinical Council of California. You can find the Kosher Palate booth at the Sunset Strip Farmer's Market every Thursday night; Mar Vista and Motor Avenue Farmer's Market every Sunday; and the truck rolling through a neighborhood near you.
It's major fiesta time this Sunday, September 15 at Washington Park in Pomona. That's when Fiestas Patrias (Spanish for "Patriotic Holidays") kicks off National Hispanic Heritage Month and celebrates Mexican Independence Day with a FREE day-long event of live entertainment, kid rides, inflatables, petting zoo, pony rides, mechanical bulls, wall rock climbing, great food and lots of giveaways. Mariachi Latino de Jose Cervantes will perform along with Los Horoscopos De Durango, Efrain Elizalde, Los Angeles Negros, Los Cadetes, banda and norteno groups and many more. The event also raises funds to provide college scholarships for local underserved students.
