Kurt Sutter: 'Anarchy' Reigns

Posted: Updated:

"There was a moment where I was like "I don't wanna do this".

Kurt Sutter is talking about the shocking final minutes of the season premiere of "Sons of Anarchy". He's the show's creator and writes many of the controversial storylines...including Tuesday night's episode. Sutter typically goes places most shows wouldn't dream of and this one was no exception.

*SPOILER ALERT! DO NOT READ FURTHER IF YOU HAVEN'T WATCHED THE PREMIERE!!!*

Steve asked Kurt about why he chose to have a little boy shoot up a school in light of recent tragedies.

"I'd been wanting to tell that story for a while and obviously it's something that we unfortunately live with that reality...I felt it really is the catalyst that takes you into the final act of our series..."

Kurt also talked about he was careful to walk that line and not exploit a tragedy for ratings...simply use reality to create realistic consequences for his characters.

"It was not done gratuitously and I feel like I have a lead character who's a father with two boys...who's been trying to get out of the life and protect his sons from the violence of his life yet he deals guns for a living. So to suggest that couldn't bleed into that area of his life would be irresponsible."

Season six returned to record ratings, Steve and Maria asked Kurt about how much gas he has in the tank to continue the show.

"We pack a lot of story and a lot of tragedy into our episodes and I feel like to go beyond seven seasons will really push the strain of all the growth of our characters and the life of the series."

Steve asked if he would change his mind...especially if he's offered more money.

"Creatively I feel like I have seven seasons in me...I never want to show up for my job going "how am I going to do this today?". That's not fair to me, it's not fair to the people who pay me a lot of money, and it's not fair to the fans..."
