Dionne Miller's 'Happenings at Halas' - September 11

CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

Preparations for Minnesota began for the Bears Wednesday. Done talking about what happened in Week 1--onto what has to get better in Week 2. And when Minnesota's on the schedule, that starts with stopping Adrian Peterson. The most electric running back in the game comes to the lake front Sunday. AP has averaged about 150 yards each time he's played the bears in his career....some games more explosive than others - obviously that 224yd performance during his rookie year stands out- and remains the most ever allowed by a Bears defense. It also marks the last time the Bears lost to Minnesota at home. Vikings DE Jarred Allen said "its annoying." Truth is, the Bears dominate in Chicago, lose in Minneapolis. So from a Bears perspective, it's annoying too.

But what annoyed (my word, not his) defensive coordinator Mel Tucker was his teams lack of pass rush against the Bengals and tackling. Charles Tillman said that's the number one thing they need to improve this week- tackling. Stopping anybody starts there, and it can't be a good thing when a corner back (Tim Jennings) leads your defense in tackling. And the anchor of your D-Line (Julius Peppers) didn't record a solo tackle- just an assist. Now there is NO need to be alarmed by that. Peppers has had 0 tackles in at least one game per season with the Bears. And as a member of Chicago's front 4, Peppers has 18 tackles and 3 sacks versus Minnesota. So nobody panic. Marc Trestman admitted Peppers didn't play as well as he wanted to, but he's one of 11. Corey Wootten said he didn't either, focusing this week on pass rushing the quarterback.

Tucker maintains, no excuses. And Tillman reiterated, "we've got a high standard for ourselves, its how we've stayed successful for so long, our standard." He's right and he's a big reason why.

Tillman was the only Bear listed on the injury report. He was limited in practice today with a knee injury. But the Bears do expect him to make his 52nd consecutive start on Sunday.
