DETROIT (WJBK) -

Storms brought an end to a late summer heat wave in much of southeast Michigan during which high temperatures reached the mid-90s for a second straight day.

The National Weather Service says Lambertville in southeastern Michigan's Monroe County was the state's hot spot at 95 degrees Wednesday. It says the temperature reached 93 at Monroe, Three Rivers, Troy and Ypsilanti, while Detroit's high was 92.

Severe thunderstorms that pushed through the area in the evening dropped Detroit's temperature to 71 degrees by 8 p.m. Wednesday but also knocked out power to at least 60,000 DTE Energy Company customers.

Temperatures statewide are expected to drop considerably for the rest of the week.
