Like every other NFL fan, I rather enjoyed the Philadelphia Eagles display of offensive prowess on Monday night. Our own Mike Durkin penned a pretty good piece about Chip Kelly's new offense read it here. I talked during yesterday's Fantasy Cast about my concern of the sustainability of the run and gun, fast break approach.
LeSean McCoy carried the ball a staggering 31 times in the opener to put that number in perspective, his last eight games of 2012 saw Shady carry 16, 14, 14, 19, 16, 15, 13 and 10 times.
More importantly, Michael Vick was sacked three times and hit a total of seven in the "everyone run a fly pattern" offense. There aren't many things I can guarantee outside of if you get hit by the beer truck, the beer truck will win but Mike Vick will not last the season at this rate.
Two years ago, Michael Vick was going at the top of drafts and I loudly protested…okay told anyone that would listen not to go that direction. Entering this year, my stance on Vick softened and if coupled with another fantasy option that I could plug in based on matchup (or in Vick's case injury) I was warm to the idea of taking him.
After one week, I liked what I saw from the offense, but still don't trust a guy who since his return from prison hasn't played more than 13 games (10,13,12,1) in a season. Although I didn't end up drafting him, I do have a suggestion for fellow owners who did. Hope for another two weeks of solid production, then sell high.
