Protestors Interrupt City Council Meeting

Posted: Updated:

The Philadelphia city council is back for the fall session, but they did not get off to a smooth start.

"We have one message for council, fund our schools!" said protestors.

Protesters, interrupted the council's first day back from summer break. They're upset with the city over the cash-strapped school district.

The council was discussing whether to scale back a tax abatement bill. Protestors want the city to cap it, so that those taxes can help pay for the schools.

"This is about having money for our school and our kids. We shouldn't have to go around begging for supply money," said a speaker.

Philadelphia teachers are currently working without a contract and a school district deficit of more than $300 million.
