Substitute bus driver leaves 8- to 10-year-olds at wrong stop

OAK PARK, Mich. (WJBK) -

A mother of a student at Pepper Elementary in Oak Park says a substitute bus driver physically forced her 8-year-old daughter and three other students off at the wrong stop on Thursday.

Dana Cosby says the driver told the children they were at the last stop for the day. The children then told the driver this was not their stop though he continued to insist it was, saying he was tired and needed to turn the bus in by 6 p.m.

When the children did not get up, Cosby says the driver grabbed each student by their arms and helped them off the bus.

Cosby immediately contacted the busing company and says she felt ignored. A spokesperson ensured Cosby the incident was just a miscommunication.

Cosby then contacted Oak Park superintendents, who say they're investigating this situation and taking it very seriously.

First Student, the busing company, says that substitute driver is suspended during the investigation and will possibly remain that way permanently.

All the children made it home safely.

Cosby says her son who is in high school was riding his bus home when he passed the area where the children were dropped off. Once the son reached his stop he went back and walked the children home.
