Eagles Talk Offensive Balance Ahead Of Home Opener

Posted: Updated:

LeSean McCoy had a fair point when asked about the number of times he touched the ball in the Eagles' impressive season-opening win against the Washington Redskins.

"Well hold up, see. Couple years ago the talk was all about how McCoy doesn't touch the ball enough. Now I'm touching it too much," he said. "Which one is it?"

But there has to be a little more balance in the Eagles run game.

McCoy had a career-high 31 carries Sunday, the most of any running back in the league after week one, FOX 29's Colleen Wolfe reports.

If they want to keep McCoy as such a viable threat, they'll need to spread out the work a little more, including when they host the San Diego Chargers on Sunday at Lincoln Financial Field.

Eagles Offensive Coordinator Pat Shurmur had this to say: "Yeah, balance, participation, regardless of whether you're talking about running backs or we're talking about tight ends earlier. I think everybody that's in there needs to get good, explosive reps, and when we're going to get more reps than we have in past years, it's important that they all play. I don't know what the good number is, but he carried the ball quite a bit, and he's no worse for wear."

On Sunday, you can catch "Game Day Live" at 11 a.m., followed by "FOX NFL Sunday at Noon."

Then it's New Orleans Saints vs. the Tampa Bay Buccaneers right here at 4 p.m., and the "FOX 29 News at 10."
