DETROIT, Mich. (WJBK) -

Power problems may keep school closed for another day at Loving Elementary in Detroit Monday. The school has already been closed for four days following last week's storms.

Click on the video player to watch Randy Wimbley's report.

Loving Elementary School is under lock and key and the doors may still be locked Monday morning because the building has no power.

"Tomorrow is the first day of school for preschool and that's 36 little four-year-olds looking forward to their first day of school," said cafeteria worker Lisa Glass. "We have kids who need to be in school, not sitting home and playing video games."

The outages is a result of last week's storms which knocked down power lines and poles and forced Lisa to toss out thousands of dollars of food from the cafeteria. Most of the neighborhood around Loving Elementary is back up and running because it's powered by DTE Energy, but the school is on the City of Detroit's grid. Every day this DPS charter school is without power, staffers are not paid.

We called Mayor Bing's spokesperson for answers and he said Detroit Public Lighting is working on the problem. He could not say how soon power will be restored. Stay with Fox 2 and myfoxdetroit.com for updates.
