ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) -- Defense attorneys say it was Casslyn Welch who made the decision to target an Oklahoma couple for their pickup truck and travel trailer as she and two escaped Arizona inmates were on the run.

And they say Welch came up with the plan to burn the couple's trailer after they had been shot.

Attorney Gary Mitchell on Tuesday tried to discredit Welch after two days of testimony in the capital murder trial of John McCluskey. Mitchell accused Welch of shifting the blame to McCluskey.

Mitchell played for jurors taped interviews in which Welch uses derogatory terms to refer to the victims in the days following her August 2010 arrest.

Welch acknowledged showing no remorse at the time. She has already pleaded guilty to charges stemming from the carjacking and slayings.
