Man in custody after truck chased in Phoenix area

A wild police chase across the valley Friday ended in gunfire. Police shot at the suspect after he crashed into several cars -- and even ran one officer off the road.

It was the second police chase in the valley this week.

It's probably not the best truck to use in a chase. A driver in a stolen work truck led police on a pursuit that went on for miles.

The driver was identified as 31-year-old Christopher Davis.

This all started when Davis stole the truck in central Phoenix, but ended way out west in Buckeye. SkyFox was overhead as the chase came to an end.

Video shows Davis on the ground surrounded by officers after he led them on a wild chase.

When someone called 911, saying their work truck had just been stolen, it was spotted by Phoenix Police a short time later.

"This suspect traveled southbound from the I-10 went through the town of Buckeye, went through some residential areas, we understand there were some schools out there as well," said Phoenix Police Sgt. Steve Martos.

Phoenix Police joined by DPS trying to stop Davis in the stolen truck, but it was clear he had no intention of stopping.

And in fact, he seemed on a mission to take out other drivers.

"As we were trying to stop this particular vehicle -- he was starting to drive or aim his vehicle at civilians who were on the roadway and at some of our officers who were trying to stop him."

The suspect was driving wildly on Cotton Lane just south of MC-85 in Goodyear when he took aim at this Phoenix Police SUV.

"It was at that point that this suspect backed his vehicle and rammed one of our patrol vehicles and one of our officers was still seated in that vehicle."

You can see a large bullet hole in the windshield of the cop car, which ended up in a ditch after being rammed. The officer shot through the windshield at the suspect.

Davis was shot and wounded, and taken to a hospital.

He remained hospitalized on Saturday, but will be booked on multiple charges after he's released.

Davis did not have a weapon on his person. Police are awaiting a search warrant to see what is in the truck.

Police say he hit a total of 8 different police cars.
