ELGIN, Ill. (Sun-Times Media Wire) -

Two teenagers were charged in a Thursday robbery near the Grand Victoria Casino in northwest suburban Elgin, during which the victim was allegedly hit in the head with a brick.

The victim told police he was at Lake Street and Grove Avenue about 8:30 p.m. Thursday when three people approached him and asked if he had a phone. The victim said he didn't, but one of the offenders, a juvenile, hit the victim in the head with a brick, police said.

The suspects then allegedly took the man's mountain bike and cell phone.

The victim made it to a friend's house and police were called. He was taken to a local hospital with a skull fracture and bleeding on the brain, police said, although an update on his condition was not immediately available.

Before police were told of the assault and robbery, officers said, they made contact with the suspects in an unrelated incident. The bike appeared in a police squad video from that incident and the victim was able to identify his bicycle from the video, police said.

Brandon K. Taylor, 17, of the 2300 block of Larch Avenue in Hanover Park, was charged with felony counts of robbery, armed robbery, aggravated robbery/indicated was armed with a firearm and two felony counts of aggravated battery.

He was ordered held on $100,000 bond, and will next appear in court Oct. 2.

A second suspect, a 15-year-old juvenile, was taken to the Kane County Juvenile Justice Center for a detention hearing on the same charges. Information on a possible third suspect was not available.
