Facebook post helps Ariz. veteran get free AC unit

MESA, Ariz. -

The power of social media brought people together Saturday morning to help a disabled veteran and his wife.

Bright and early on Saturday morning, volunteers started shoveling rock.

They were doing difficult and exhausting work, all for perfect strangers.

"I was a marine, that tells everything," said Frank Agler.

Frank Agler served our country through two decades.

He stared death in the eye, but Saturday, when the dust cleared the sight before him was a vision.

"I thought it was fantastic," said Frank Agler.

"He had half of his pancreas and his spleen removed at the end of August. He's on oxygen 24 hours a day," said Esther Agler, Frank's wife.

Slab leaks meant the Aglers went without hot water for more than a year.

They eventually applied for help with the House of Heroes Arizona.

"When I came here, it was really hot. I finally asked them why it was so warm, they didn't even tell me that their AC went out," said Janet Cruz Rogers, with House for Heroes Arizona.

Volunteer Steve Fisher spoke to the executive director and in turn, he shared a post on Facebook asking for help.

An air conditioning company replied within a few hours.

"He came out here Monday, looked at the AC, couldn't fix it, went to order a new one. Tuesday they were out here installing it," said Fisher.

In addition to a new air conditioning unit, dozens of volunteers showed up to paint and power wash the couples' home, they're getting new landscaping, new carpet and they're tile floor is getting cleaned--all because of one Facebook post.

Roughly 75 people showed up to help the Aglers and they hope to repay their kindness one day.

The Aglers are urging people to help other vets like Frank.
