Sigma Group is trying to drive down health care costs, reduce sick time, increase productivity and motivate its employees through exercise.
Sigma, which is based in northern New Jersey, is challenged with high health care costs and the problem of how to offer comprehensive wellness benefits to its employees.
The company found success with Fitting in Fitness, a company that gives businesses like Sigma unique options for fitting exercise and wellness programs into the workday.
Sigma's wellness program - Wellness Works - is a 360-degree program that
promotes a healthy lifestyle; aims to decrease employee sick time; enhances team building; and inspires individuals to improve their physical, mental and spiritual well-being both at home and in the office.
"Employees perform their best when they are healthy. And we know that optimal employee performance and productivity are necessary for Sigma to elevate our game," says Shannon Morris, Sigma Group president. "Our employees have responded to options like weekly boot camps, yoga, martial arts training and nutrition counseling because they typically can't fit in exercise in on their own time, can't afford it, or are not self-motivated."
While it's too early to detail any economic return, Sigma claims there are several positive outcomes that have already made the program worthwhile.
