Detroit man, 49, is caught by security cameras cashing bogus bottle return slips
Rochester Hills, Mich. (WJBK) -- A 49-year-old Detroit man is under arrest for allegedly trying to cash phony bottle return slips at a Kroger store.
Oakland County Sheriff's deputies responded to the Kroger on Livernois in Rochester Hills after receiving a call from the store's fraud investigation department. Store employees had been keeping an eye on two people they suspected of cashing counterfeit bottle return slips over the course of two months.
Tuesday, one of the suspects came into the store and cashed in $50 worth of return slips. Kroger's fraud team stopped the man and detained him until deputies arrived. He was arrested and is being held at the Oakland County Jail until he can be arraigned on fraud charges.
Deputies say the man and his alleged partner are responsible for more than $2,000 in fraudulent bottle returns. The investigation is ongoing.
