Dixon residents reacting to $40M settlement

DIXON, Ill. (Associated Press) -

Residents of Dixon are considering what to do with $40 million that the city has won as part of a settlement involving the theft of more than $53 million.

The city will get the money from a bank and its auditors. The settlement comes after former city comptroller Rita Crundwell was sentenced in February to more than two decades in prison. She admitted stealing the money from the city.

Landscape architect Dean Sheaffer tells The Telegraph that he thought the city would recoup much less. The 74-year-old says the money would be well spent on infrastructure and street needs.

McDonald's worker Vincent Bennett says he would like to see road improvements too - and the renovation of the local swimming pool that closed more than a decade ago.
