The popular web search engine that spawned a tech empire is now old enough to get a learner's permit Friday.

The website celebrated with a special interactive banner that they call Google Doodles that starts with a birthday cake and ends with the player using the spacebar or mouse to hit a piñata. The goal is to get as much candy out as possible.

The search giant also has a special Easter Egg that allows users to see how they looked 15 years ago by searching the term "Google in 1998."

The exact birth date of Google has shifted around over the years, but they were founded on Sept. 4, 1998 by Larry Page and Sergey Brin, both Ph.D. students at Stanford University.

Google celebrated its birthday a day early on Thursday by announcing that they have once again reworked their algorithm. In a unveiling ceremony in the Menlo Park, Calif. garage where it all started, Page and Brin unveiled "Hummingbird" which has been slowly been rolled out over the past month.
