Cycling for cancer research in Times Square

NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) - More than 100 stationary bikes were set up in Times Square on Friday for a fundraiser to benefit cancer research.

Instructors from Cycle for Survival lead four sessions throughout the day.

"The message here is that anyone can make a difference," said event founder David Linn.

His wife, Jen, was diagnosed with a rare form a cancer at the age of 34. She died six years later.

"We were shocked with how few treatment options were available. We realized something had to change. That's why we started Cycle for Survival," said Linn.

Organizers say all the proceeds will go for Memorial Sloan-Kettering research into rare forms of cancer.

Cycle for Survival is a national indoor team event that is owned and operated by the hospital.

"100 percent of every donation goes into research," said Linn.

In the past seven years, the group has raised more than $31 million and funded 85 clinical and research trials for rare forms of cancer.
