Steve Harvey hosts mentoring event in Detroit

Posted: Updated:
DETROIT (WJBK) -

The Steve Harvey Mentoring Campaign made a stop in the motor city with the goal of promoting mentorship towards African Americans boys. The talk show and Family Feud host spoke about the importance of a positive male influence in a young man's life.

100 kids between the ages of 13 and 18 were picked for the program. All of the boys come from single parent homes and some have never met their fathers.

The campaign featured a crash course on teamwork from the U.S. Army. Harvey paired up the boys with soldiers and other Detroit men who agreed to mentor them.
