Family, Arizonans react to Yarnell Hill fire report

Updated:
PRESCOTT, Ariz. -

Family and residents from around Arizona reacted to the fire report. Some were frustrated about its contents.

Crowds could be seen in downtown Prescott on a perfect picture-postcard day.

The city is the home of the Granite Mountain Hotshots and the tragic toll of the Yarnell Hill fire is never far from people's minds.

After talking to many people in Prescott, the general sense among them was that the answers are known, but aren't being shared with the public.

"It is all politics, so if you ask me, I think they are trying to cover it up. So we may never know, they may know internally," said Kammy Wolfson, of Glendale.

Other people say the report only underscores what people already know about the dangers of fighting wildfires.

"There was a fire, there was a necessity. Those men did what they needed to do and what they wanted to do. They have trained for that all their lives, that is what it will come to, truth be known," said Tim Briggs, of Prescott.

The families of the fallen firefighters are looking for specific improvements, like better emergency shelters.

Dave Turbyfill's son, Travis, was one of the 19 firefighters who died.

I am satisfied with the report. What I am not satisfied with is the attitude that the equipment is working within adequate guidelines," said Turbyfill.
