Surge protectors being recalled over fire hazard

CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

We have a major recall to tell you about that goes back 20 years.

Schneider Electric is recalling 15 million of its surge protectors.

There have been 700 reports of the devices overheating and it some instances it caused fires.

The surge protectors were sold between January 1993 to December 2002 under the name APC Surge Arrest.

They were sold at Best Buy, Circuit City, CompUSA and other stores for anywhere from $13 to $50.
