PHOENIX -

After a 2-year long investigation, Phoenix Police have taken down a prison gang accused of working with a street gang to commit crimes throughout Arizona.

Six people involved in the operation were indicted.

Angel Lopez Garcia, the alleged ringleader who is currently incarcerated and his wife, Carmen Fischer Garcia of Phoenix were named in the indictment.

According to the indictment, Garcia directed drug sales, extortion, fraud, money laundering and homicides while in federal and state prison, and used other gang members and associates to facilitate these offenses. His wife, who was his attorney before they were married, allegedly deposited thousands of dollars in his prison accounts.

The other four indicted -- Rosio Robles Gonzales, Oralia L. Garcia, and Tanya Garcia-Ochoa, of Phoenix, and Rosemary Ann Garcia, of Bisbee, are believed to be female associates within the gang.

Arrest warrants were served on Friday and everyone involved was taken into custody.

Warrants were served in Phoenix as well as Bisbee, arresting suspects accused of multiple money laundering charges, the sale of dangerous drugs, and solicitation to commit murder.

"When you're talking narcotics and the sale of narcotics and the organized crime specifically around those narcotics, it's something that we have to stay on top of," said Phoenix Police Chief Daniel Garcia.

Garcia faces 159 different counts, including homicide and leading a large prison gang.
