Lincoln Park Railsplitters break 66-game losing streak

Posted: Updated:

The Lincoln Park Railsplitters have won its first varsity football game since 2006.

The team walked on the field with a 66-game losing streak, determined there would not be a 67th. They scored a touchdown at the goal line in the first three minutes of the game.
Then, a second touchdown was scored with two minutes left in the first quarter.

"This is the first time I think they've been winning this much," Barbara Moore tells Fox 2's Randy Wimbley. She has a grandson who plays on the team.

The Railsplitters have been ahead before, but fans - even the coach - was confident tonight would be the night they'd pull it off.

CJ Ward played on the team and lost every game his high school career. "You see all these fans out here? They come to every game, every game for an 0-9 team. That says something about the pride that comes through the Lincoln Park School district," Ward says.

Thomas Hernandez, a team member, calls tonight's win the "greatest feeling in the world."

The final score of the game was 34 - 20 against John F. Kennedy High School in Taylor.
