South Side man who posed as cop charged with robbery

CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) -

A man who allegedly robbed several people at gunpoint while claiming to be a police officer has been charged, authorities said.

James Blackman, 46, is accused of robbing at least four people on the South Side throughout September, according to a statement from the Chicago police Office of News Affairs.

Blackman, of the 6400 block of South Morgan Street, was charged with three counts of armed robbery with a firearm, one count of aggravated robbery, five counts of impersonating a police officer and one count of aggravated kidnapping and issuance of a warrant, police said.

He is believed to be the connected to at least four robberies in which he would identify himself as "Officer Franklin" before robbing people at gunpoint, police said previously. The robberies occurred in the 7000 block of South Justine Street, the 8000 block of South Oakley Avenue, the 7700 block of South Colfax Avenue and the 8100 block of South Colfax Avenue.

Blackman is scheduled to appear in bond court Wednesday.
