Marilyn Monroe X-Ray Images Expected To Sell For $30,000

Posted: Updated:

A set of x-rays are heading to the auction block, and they're expected to fetch between 15 and 30,000 dollars. Why so much for six x-rays? Because they were taken of the American icon Marilyn Monroe, and they are believed to prove the Hollywood sex symbol went under the knife.

The unnamed seller received the items as a gift from Hollywood plastic surgeon Michael Gurdin. They include x-rays of Monroe's frontal facial bones, a composite right and left x-ray of the sides of her nasal bones and dental x-rays of the roof of her mouth.

They were taken after a late night fall on June 7th 1962, just two months before the actress died from an overdose.

"The X-rays were taken in the middle of the night. She had a fall between 2:30 and 3 a.m. There's great speculation as to who was in her company that evening. But she did have a fall and her psychoanalyst, Dr. Greenson, brought her to Dr. Gurdin for treatment and for observation. Dr. Gurdin referred her to the X-ray radiologist, Dr. Steinberg and Dr. Conti, and they took the X-rays. There are six X-rays altogether," said Martin Nolan of the executive director of Julien's Auctions.

"It just gives an inside to her nose and her jaw bone and her dental work. Also, there are references in her medical chart to the fact that Marilyn Monroe first had plastic surgery going back to 1950, and again the world is going to really say, 'Ah ha.' Nobody really thought about Marilyn Monroe having plastic surgery, it was always speculation, did she or didn't she? They thought she was such a natural beauty they didn't want to believe. Also at that time, going back to the 1950s, people didn't go for plastic surgery procedures. This is very, very new. But again, Marilyn Monroe was always cutting edge, always futuristic, always seeking to improve herself and better herself, always wanted to be No. one. I think that's what the X-rays will speak to."

A set of three chest x-rays of Monroe from 1954 sold for $45,000 at a 2010 auction. Marilyn Monroe is rumored to have had a chin implant and a tip rhinoplasty.
