CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

Have you seen the photo of Serafina Murphy with a bandage over her heart? Her father turned the tables on a Facebook page that misused her photo, and raised more than $3,000 for Lurie Children's Hospital.

University of Illinois law student Sean Murphy, Serafina's father, first posted the photo of his daughter in May. The photo was taken after the 22-month-old girl had surgery at Lurie to fix a hole in her heart, caused by a congenital defect.

The image of Serafina, decked out in her Hello Kitty slippers and hospital gown, touched the hearts of many and went viral on the web.

But the photo also got roped into a disturbing and growing trend called "Social Content Farming." The Facebook page "Starteens" posted Murphy's photo without permission on Oct. 1, asking users to "like" the photo to "wish Serafina "a quick and healthy recovery."

The post gained more than four million "likes," more than 60,000 shares and sky-rocketed the page's "talking about this" statistics. The goal? To attract advertisers and make money.

When Sean Murphy found out about Starteens' post, he went directly to the comments to turn the tables and make something good out of the wrong done to him and his daughter.

He wrote directly to the users, identifying himself as Serafina's father, explaining the context of the photo and how he would be running the Bank of America Chicago Marathon with the Lurie Children's Marathon Team to celebrate the anniversary of saving Serafina's life.

He asked those who would have liked, shared or commented on the photo to help give back to Lurie Children's, so that the hospital could help save another child's life – like it did for his daughter.

Murphy asked for as little as $5. After 43,000 people visited his donation page, he's helped raise $3,256. His goal is $5,000. The race will take place on Sunday, Oct. 13, 2013. There is still time to help out.
