Twenty-four-year-old Sinh Vinh Ngo Ngyuen of Garden Grove, pleaded not guilty in a Santa Ana federal courtroom today.
He was arrested by FBI agents at a Santa Ana bus stop at 7:30 Friday morning as he was about to board a bus for Mexico.
The indictment says Nguyen, also known as Hasan Abu Omar Ghannoum, was charged with attempting to provide aid to the Al-Qaeda terrorist organization.
The U.S. citizen is also charged with making false statements on a passport application. FBI agents believe he wanted to facilitate an act of international terrorism.
Investigators do not believe Nguyen was traveling with others and are not aware of any continuing public threat.
His lawyer and family members declined comment after the hearing this afternoon, Nguyen is expected back in court on October 18th.
