Inside the numbers: Strength of schedule breakdown

Posted: Updated:

We have reached the official-unofficial half way point of fantasy regular season and now have enough statistical data to formulate several opinions. We thought it would be wise to look ahead at each teams schedules (including week 17 when most leagues are finished). Here's what we found.

Each team was ranked 1-32 in passing yards and rushing yards allowed and that number was assigned to each opponent remaining on their schedule. The higher the number the easier their schedule.

Strength of schedule based on passing rankings:

Washington boasts the easiest remaining schedule in the passing game. With Denver (32); Philadelphia (31) and Dallas (30) and Minnesota (29) remaining on the schedule, RGIII should improve his stats and lead his owners to fantasy victory. Philadelphia, Chicago, Dallas and Minnesota finish out the top five. All but Minnesota are viable fantasy options but with Josh Freeman taking over, he will have an opportunity to produce.

The Redskins once again top the list based on remaining opponents meaning not only are yards in play but also touchdowns. Of all the teams in the top 10, Minnesota and Tennessee are teams to stay away from despite their rankings. It is interesting to note that the Titans opponents have given up scores, but the Titans schedule from a yardage perspective is bottom 10.
