DETROIT, Mich. (WJBK) -

Ten students were taken away on stretchers following a school bus accident on Heyden Street near Cathedral Street. Detroit Public School officials say the bus was hit after a vehicle ran a stop sign.

Students on the bus attend Dixon Elementary-Middle School.

Detroit police have located the car that is believed to have collided with the bus. The car fled the scene and was found several blocks away from the site.

Five students were taken to Children's Hospital and five to Sinai-Grace. The students gave concerns to potential neck and back injuries after walking off the bus.

School officials say the principal is visiting the hospital and the school is in the process of contacting parents.
