National Mammography Day: How a mammography works

Every third Thursday in October is National Mammography Day. But, statistics show a third of woman who should be getting mammograms aren't getting them for two reasons: fear and lack of insurance.

Dr. James Selis, a radiologist at Providence Hospital, is helping to ease the fear when it comes to getting a mammogram. He explains exactly how the procedure works and what the procedure looks for.

For women without health insurance a program does offer qualifying women free screenings and possible treatment. That program is the BCCCP, or the Breast and Cervical Cancer Control Program.
