Homecoming Couple Scores On The Field

The pep band kept the spirits high; the cheerleaders had the crowd pumped up on the field as the Rocky Mountain Lutheran tried to clip the wings of the Gilpin Eagles.

It was a homecoming to remember, especially for the King and Queen.

"I now present to you king Andrew Immordino and queen Val Romine," the announcer said.

Immordino is number 54 and his Queen is offensive lineman number 45 on the Gilpin Eagles.

That's right this homecoming couple is not only royalty, they're teammates too.

"Our girl just happens to be a right guard and I just thinks that really cool," Sue Henry of Gilpin County High School said.

This football fairy tale gets better because this king and queen share more than just the black and gold of the Gilpin uniform. They're high school sweethearts too.

"It's not every day you see two football players leaving practice holding hands," Gigette Nadeau, a Gilpin football fan said.

This fairy tale took a nasty turn when Queen Val went down during a game with a pretty serious injury. She was taken off the field put in an ambulance and transported to the hospital.

With their queen out of the game, the Gilpin eagles battled back scoring the winning touchdown with just 30 seconds left in the game.

It was a victory that would make any king proud.

" This is for Val....you pulled it off...brought it home for the Queen," Immordino said.

The Gilpin Eagles won 40-36 over the Rocky Mountain Lutheran.
