Mother surprises kids at school after 9-month deployment

DOUGLASVILLE, Ga. -

A Navy petty officer surprised her two children at a Douglasville school on Monday.

Navy Petty Officer 1st Class Mary Kindle had served overseas, mostly in Afghanistan, for nine months. Her 8-year-old son, Caleb, ran into her arms after she dropped in during gym class at Arbor Station Elementary.

"I missed you," Caleb said.

"I missed you too," Mary Kindle replied.

Earlier in the day, Kindle had surprised her daughter, Hailey Harper, in the middle of chorus class.

"I was with my friends. We were talking about what type of music we were going to do in the chorus that we're doing, and then I looked up and I see my mom. I jumped over the seats and I hugged her," Hailey said.

The children's grandmother, Sally See, cared for them while their mother was away.

"They all wanted their mama back home," See said. "They Skyped with her quite a bit, emailed her some. They just wanted to talk to mama all the time."

Mary Kindle said she was overjoyed to be back home.

"It's fabulous. I have missed them so much.  It's great to be home," Kindle said.

The children made up for all the hugs they've missed this year as the proud mom marveled at how much her kids had grown.

"They always get bigger don't they," Kindle said.

Kindle's children were dismissed from school early so they could spend the afternoon with their mom.
