TUCSON, Ariz. -
During the 16-day government shutdown, Border Patrol agents seized more than 7,000 pounds of marijuana, 10 smuggling vehicles, and other illegal contraband.
The Tucson sector Border Patrol says they confiscated $4 million in marijuana over the shutdown period.
That includes two separate seizures near Tat Momoli, and several smuggling attempts at checkpoints.
Agents discovered about 12 illegal immigrants inside the trunks of vehicles, with no visible means of escape or drinking water. In another incident, agents discovered 300 pounds of marijuana concealed inside two pallets of cinder blocks on a flatbed pickup truck.
