"It's eerie," said Pastor Timothy Babatunde. He was shocked to see what surveillance video captured inside his church Christ Temple World Outreach in Darby Borough.
"Low and behold, we saw the gentleman picking and packing stuff," said the Pastor who believes the suspect broke in through a window. The video shows the man walk out of one room, cross the hall, then look around in another room. Eventually he discovers the audio visual room. Soon after you see him leave with an arm load of equipment.
"I'm happy that no one was here. I'm happy that nobody's hurt. Those things can be replaced," said Babatunde.
The burglar is accused of stealing a musical keyboard and two laptop computers with valuable information. But it wasn't his only visit. The Pastor says the alarm first sounded after 1 a.m. last Saturday. The guy got in and got out. He then came back after 3 a.m. and took more stuff.
"He may be a desperate guy that just wants a fix," Babatunde said.
Darby Borough Police believe the guy is behind a string of break-ins over the past two weeks here. They say a total of three churches have been hit, in addition to the Darby Borough Library and some residential homes.
"All of the burglaries are very similar in what was taken and the way the building was entered," said Police Chief Robert Smythe. Police are asking you to take note of the jacket the suspect is wearing. It could be a major clue.
"It has a lot of graphic designs on it which if you're walking down the street this coat is going to stand out," said Chief Smythe.
Pastor Babatunde doesn't harbor ill feelings against the suspect even though the church lost about $4,000 worth of equipment it uses for worship services.
"This is maybe a good spot for him to target. He could go elsewhere and be killed. So he needs help," said Pastor Babatunde.
Investigators say the string of burglaries is unusual for this area. The burglar strikes in early-morning hours and gets in and out quickly. Call Darby Borough Police at 610-586-1100 if you know anything.
