Velvet Underground's Lou Reed Dead At 71

NEW YORK -

Music legend Lou Reed died Sunday. He was a massively influential singer, songwriter and guitarist who helped shape nearly 50 years of rock music.

As leader of the Velvet Underground in the late Sixties, Reed pioneered avant-garde and punk rock.

His solo career took him from the seventies until the present day, challenging fans at every turn.

Among his hits were "Walk on the Wild Side," "Sweet Jane," and "Perfect Day.

Lewis Allan Reed was born in Brooklyn in 1942.
