Local Army Captain Gets Welcome Home From Afghanistan

YARDLEY, Pa. -

There was a special welcome home Sunday for a U.S. Army captain who just returned from Afghanistan.

Friends, family and strangers all came out to Yardley, Bucks County, to welcome back Capt. Spencer Garrison.

The 2009 graduate of West Point says he plans to continue active-duty service even after his five-year enlistment period is up in May.

But for now, he says he's just happy to be home.

"It's just really a great relief and a joy to just be back home, especially with my family," Garrison said. "I've been waiting to see my family and friends and neighbors for a long time, and this was completely unexpected. So, this is just a fantastic honor. I'm speechless."

Garrison serves as a public affairs officer for the 555th Engineer Brigade out of Fort Lewis, Washington.

Welcome home, Captain!
