Thieves hit DeKalb Co. officer while making escape

Posted: Updated:
DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. -

A DeKalb County police officer is expected to be okay after he was injured during a stakeout at a trucking business overnight.  Investigators say thieves hit the officer with their minivan while trying to make a getaway.

Police say it happened at the Schneider National Trucking facility on International Park Drive.  Officers were conducting surveillance there due to a recent rash in thefts targeting tractor trailers.  They say thieves have been breaking into the tractor trailers and taking the items that are inside.

Investigators say the officers saw two suspects trying to break into a tractor trailer, and they tried to stop them.  That's when one of the suspect's vehicles -- a dark-colored minivan -- hit one of the officers and one of the police cars.

The officer was taken to DeKalb Medical Center with minor injuries.

Police are still searching for the two suspects.  They say the second suspect got away in a white pickup truck.
