Joel McHale: They Are Like Odd Jobs To Me

Posted: Updated:

Joel McHale used to be much bigger. When he was a college football player, the host of E!'s 'The Soup' and now 'The Soup Investigates,' Joel says he weighed 250 lbs.

"I was not the willowy frame I am now," Joel tells Steve Edwards and Maria Sansone on Good Day LA  "You have to be (big), because you might be killed out there."

Joel recalls fondly that he played for one of the great college football coaches of our time -- Don James.  "I was a source of great laughter.  The best night I ever had was on skit night."

When asked what happened to his football career, the former tight end says, "It turned out that I sucked, and when you suck that bad, you get a job at E!"

And that's where you can see him every Wednesday night on his two shows.
